Luka Doncic will be entering his sixth NBA season, all of which has been played with the Dallas Mavericks since being selected third overall in the 2018 draft. The Slovenian is currently playing some of the best basketball of his career, but will it be enough to land him a player award at the end of the season?

I'll be tracking Luka Doncic's odds throughout the season for betting markets like the NBA MVP race and Clutch Player of the Year. Here's a quick look at where Doncic's player awards odds are as of late January, per DraftKings Sportsbook Texas:

Luka Doncic MVP Odds

The regular season NBA MVP award, or Most Valuable Player, is given annually to the best-performing player across the entire league. The NBA MVP has been awarded every year since the 1955-1956 season. Since the 2022-2023 season, this has been rebranded as the Michael Jordan Trophy.

Although Doncic has been a star since entering the league in his rookie season, the closest he got to being named the NBA MVP was his second year when he finished fourth in voting. Doncic will have to overtake Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic. Embiid is the reigning NBA MVP while Jokic won back-to-back trophies in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Current Luka Doncic Odds to Win MVP

These are the latest odds for Luka Doncic to win MVP from some of the top Texas sportsbooks. Keep in mind sports betting is not yet legal in Texas. For those who want to place bets on Doncic, you would have to visit a state where legislation has been passed, such as Louisiana. Your only alternative would be to use a free-to-play social sportsbook like BetRivers.net.

Past Performance Impacting Doncic’s Odds

Doncic has the fourth-shortest odds to win NBA MVP for a reason. The Mavs' star is currently second in the league in points per game, second in usage percentage, third in assists per game, third in value over replacement player, fifth in player efficiency rating, and seventh in win shares.

At the time of this writing, Doncic has registered the third-most triple-doubles and is tied for the ninth-most double-doubles. Here are a few of the recent stand-out performances impacting Doncic's odds for MVP:

  • 📆 Jan. 17, 2024: In a loss to the Lakers, Luka gets his seventh triple-double of the season, going 33-13-10.
  • 📆 Jan. 1, 2024: Despite getting blown out by the Jazz, Luka posts a 19-point, 14-assist double-double for his 22nd of the season.
  • 📆 Dec. 25, 2023: Doncic drops a 50-point performance on Christmas Day against the Phoenix Suns. He also tags on 15 assists, six rebounds, four steals, and three blocks in their 128-114 win.

Luka Doncic Clutch Player of the Year Odds

As the name implies, the NBA Clutch Player of the Year goes to the player who best comes through and performs in the clutch when it's needed most. This year will be just the second time the award is given out, as it debuted in the 2022-2023 season with the Sacramento Kings' De'Aaron Fox taking it home in its inaugural season. Doncic was not listed as a finalist for the award last year.

Current Luka Doncic Odds to win Clutch Player of The Year

At the time of this writing, Clutch Player of the Year odds were available on far fewer Texas sports betting apps compared to MVP. Currently, Luka Doncic is +1500 to win Clutch Player of the Year on DraftKings. This gives him the fifth-shortest odds to win the award, behind Damian Lillard (+180), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, LeBron James, and Steph Curry.

Luka Doncic Defensive Player of the Year Odds

Defensive Player of the Year is another annual NBA award. As the name suggests, this award is given to the best defensive player during the regular season. Although MVP has been awarded since the mid-1950s, DPotY is much more recent and has only been around since the 1982-1983 season.

Current Luka Doncic Odds to Win Defensive Player of the Year

While Luka can stuff the stat sheet and rack up rebounds, blocks, and steals here and there, he has never been a threat to be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year. For context, there are at least 20 players with listed odds across the major US legal sportsbooks for the award with some of those prices reaching as long as +50000. Doncic's name is not among the 20-plus players on any betting platform.

Luka Doncic Rookie of the Year

Doncic became just the second Dallas Mavericks player in franchise history to win the prestigious NBA Rookie of the Year award. Prior to Doncic winning in 2019, Jason Kidd shared the award with Grant Hill in 1995.

Luka was the clear favorite for the award his rookie season, having secured 98 of a possible 100 votes. The only other player to receive votes that year was Atlanta's Trae Young. Interestingly, it was the Hawks who Dallas traded up with earlier in the season to draft Doncic third overall.

Luka Doncic 2023-2024 Stats

Doncic is having one of his strongest statistical seasons this year, and I'll be keeping up with his per-game stats throughout the 2023-2024 season.

Points per game33.6
Assists per game9.2
Rebounds per game8.3
Steals per game1.4
Blocks per game0.6
Turnovers per game3.9

If Doncic can keep up with the current pace he's on, he'll end up posting career-best numbers in points per game, assists per game, three-point percentage, free throw percentage, and effective field goal percentage. He's also currently tied with LeBron James for the third-most 30-point triple-doubles of all time.

Assessing Luka Doncic’s Chances

Luka Doncic has a strong chance of winning his first MVP award this season if he can continue to fill the stat sheet. In order to climb the odds boards and become an MVP favorite, however, the Mavericks will have to continue to rack up wins. We rarely see the award go to someone whose team did not make the playoffs, although Kareem Abdul Jabbar holds the distinction as the only player to have accomplished that.

If Doncic can continue on his current pace and the Mavs can at least win the Southwest, he'll certainly be in the running to join legend Dirk Nowitzki as the only MVP winners in franchise history.
