Best Month For Rangers: Texas’ Success Month-By-Month Since 2021

Best Month For Rangers: Texas’ Success Month-By-Month Since 2021
Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

Fresh off their first World Series championship in the franchise’s history, the Texas Rangers are hoping they won’t need to wait 63 years for their next one.

After finishing 68-94 in 2022, the Rangers entered last year as 50-1 longshots at BetMGM Sportsbook to win the pennant, according to SportsOddsHistory.com. But they shocked many by going 90-72 last year, then reeling off four straight postseason series wins to prove the oddsmakers wrong — albeit not in their own state because Texas sportsbooks are still not legal.

While they did indeed shine come October, it was the Rangers’ work in May that put them in position for a fall to remember. Last season, Texas went 18-9 for the month, the best by far of the six full months in the season.

If history is any indicator, the Rangers are in line to have another successful second month of the season. Using Baseball-Reference data, BetTexas.com pulled the Rangers’ records from the past three years to see which month the team plays best. Based on the data, the team plays best in May with a 46-36 record and a .561 win-loss percentage. World Series Rematch Slated For May

This season will find the Rangers mostly away from Arlington for the month of May. They play 17 games on the road, including back-to-back three-game series against fellow 2023 postseason contestants, the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins. After that six-game road trip from May 21-26, Texas returns home for a two-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team the Rangers beat in six games to win the Series last season.

While May is the Rangers’ time to shine, they tend not to fare well during the summer, according to Baseball-Reference.com numbers. Over the past three seasons, they’re just 27-48 in July, and the 11-13 mark the Rangers had last July was the only full month under .500 for the season.

Texas Rangers 2024 Odds

Texas will face another grueling July this season. It starts with a three-game series at home against the San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays, who were swept by the Rangers in last year’s Wild Card series, from July 2-7. Just before the All-Star Game, which will be held July 16 at the Rangers’ Globe Life Field, Texas plays a three-game series against the Houston Astros, whom they beat in last year’s American League Championship Series.

The Rangers resume play after the break, hosting the Baltimore Orioles, whom they swept in the Divisional Series. The month concludes with road trips to the Toronto Blue Jays, another playoff team from last year, and the St. Louis Cardinals, who are among the favorites to win the National League Central.

Texas sports betting apps are not yet legal, but Rangers fans who live elsewhere, or plan to travel, can get in on Texas Rangers 2024 odds in many states. The team’s odds to win the World Series this year are +1400, the sixth shortest at ESPN BET. The rival Astros are the third pick at +800.
