Can Cowboys Continue Their Winning Ways In September?

Can Cowboys Continue Their Winning Ways In September?
Fact Checked by Michael Peters

It’s been close to 30 years since the Dallas Cowboys last hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy, though fans of the franchise have high hopes that 2023 could be their year.

One thing Cowboys fans have been able to enjoy has been the team’s performance out of the gate, with Dallas posting the league’s fifth-best winning percentage during September since 2010.

With the NFL season getting close to its first month, BetTexas.com utilized StatMuse.com to find the records of every NFL team in September since 2010 to aid in your sports wagering.

Unfortunately, there is no legal Texas sports betting. It will be the 2025 state legislative session before the matter will be discussed again.

Best NFL Teams in September Since 2010

Rank, Team Record Winning Pct.
Green Bay Packers 30-13-1 .693
Kansas City Chiefs 29-13 .691
New England Patriots 30-14 .682
Baltimore Ravens 28-16 .636
Dallas Cowboys 26-17 .605
Denver Broncos 25-17 .595
Seattle Seahawks 25-18 .581
Buffalo Bills 25-19 .568
Los Angeles Rams 24-19 .558
Philadelphia Eagles 24-19-1 .557

Although there are no Texas sports betting apps, national operators list the Chiefs as favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champs. Kansas City is +600, while Philadelphia is second at +800.

Cowboys Among NFL’s Best Out of the Gate

Overall, the Cowboys have posted a 26-17 (.605) winning percentage in September since 2010, ranking behind Green Bay (.693), Kansas City (.691), New England (.682) and Baltimore (.636).

Dallas’ 26 September victories since 2010 also rank fifth in the league during that timeframe.

This year, the Cowboys will hit the road twice in September, against the New York Giants (on Sept. 10) and Arizona (on Sept. 24), offset by a home game against the New York Jets on Sept. 17.

Those three teams combined to go 20-30-1 a year ago, meaning Dallas will likely be able to build on their strong September showings of late in the year ahead.

It seems like oddsmakers at BetMGM Sportsbook (there is no BetMGM Texas) expect the Cowboys to hit the ground running, with a win total over/under of 9.5.
